RE::

Hey thanks guys for your comments but I forgot to include:
For the next year and a half a reliable form of transportation is like my books--it's a necessity for the nursing program for clinical. I think we're just afraid that say in six months there's major issues (from the crazy harsh winter) and we'll be stuck since we had already determined how much we could get for loans for the school year.
I think we feel like we're in a gamble:
We DO NOT want to get a new car (seriously, save me the hassle) but we're afraid of being high and dry if the unexpected happens.

Would we have other options for the latter? Would you take the chance?

Tempting! My sis in law is in the BYU-I nursing program and she is driving alot- you have a good point. However... I'm sure Heavenly Father will bless you by sustaining your car for another 2 years. We had a really really small amount in student loans when Dustin and I got married, and we're now JUST finishing paying them off after 3 years... 100$ a month. It's annoying. Avoid it if you can (are you sick of everyone saying that by now??)
Plus, your insurance will go up, which sucks.
But... also do what you feel is right. When we test drove our 2000 Honda Accord I had an overwhelming feeling that this was the car we needed to buy. We've had no problems with it at all, so sometimes Heavenly Father will help lead you to the right car!

Hey, seriously you just need to shop around. That's what Brad and I did and after a few months we found the perfect car for us and ended up not breaking the bank OR needing to make payments. If it is supposed to work out, it will.

I am no expert but here is something this think about: My friend always says "You're either gonna pay now or pay later" and usually it's cheaper to pay now because if you wait until you really need something you're always gonna pay more for it than if you buy it before you absolutely must have it. This is true for acquiring just about anything.
